About the Performance:
West Australian Ballet presents three short works, the first is Claude Brumachon’“Les Indomptés” a duet by two men that is a ‘dual flight” full of energy, seeking something to let go of – to find the desire in a body offered, letting the vocalism of movement vibrate. The dancers tear themselves away, run and fly, wild and savage, re-discovering their first animal instincts then repel themselves, finding ecstasy in the moment. The second work is a short, sharp and entertaining solo, by Eric Gauthier, “Ballet 101” is a humorous contemporary parody on ballet. Using the basic five positions as his starting point, Gauthier creates 100 positions with clever and witty references to famous ballets and choreographers. The first section demonstrates the positions, the second half of the piece combines them randomly to create a choreography with a stunning surprise ending. The third work titled “Simplicity” is a recent abstract duet with music from Daft Punk, recently premiering in Perth as part of West Australian Ballet’s Genesis season and is by Claire Voss.
